UnitedHealthcare Offers Free Quit for Life Tobacco Cessation Support

UnitedHealthcare is adding FREE Quit For Life tobacco cessation support on all fully insured plans effective June 1, 2018.

Quit For Life is a clinically proven tobacco cessation program offered in collaboration with the American Cancer Society. The program combines digital and telephonic tools and resources, along with physical, psychological, and behavioral strategies to help members overcome their tobacco addiction.

Throughout the program, members have access to a highly trained, experienced Quit Coach to help make a plan, set a quit date, and provide ongoing support. In addition, members receive many tools and resources to help keep them engaged and on track with their cessation plan, including:

  • Expert-led online courses
  • Urge management tools
  • Digital first approach (portal and mobile support)
  • Highly trained tobacco cessation coaches
  • Nicotine replacement therapy counseling
  • Text messaging
  • Secured emails

Since 2009, Quit For Life has been delivered to the market in collaboration with the American Cancer Society. This product also has multiple other partners and accreditations, including the Society of Behavioral Medicine, Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence, World Health Organization, and Stanford Research Institute International. Quit For Life has helped more than 3.5 million people and has delivered impressive results:

  • 49% quit rate
  • 95% program satisfaction
  • 97% of participants would recommend the program

Although smoking rates have declined over the years, one out of six American adults still smokes. Costs to employers are staggering: $3,160 in medical expenses + $146 in workers’ compensation + $1,066 in lost productivity + $1,903 in smoking breaks = $6,275 total.

It can be difficult for people to stop smoking or using any form of tobacco, especially without the proper help and resources. Quit For Life provides members with the coaching, tools, and resources to help improve their confidence and motivation to quit.

Humana Updates to 2018 Producer Partnership Plan

Humana has made updates to the 2018 Producer Partnership Plan (PPP) for Individual Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Dental, and Vision products. These updates include changes to the Medicare Supplement Commission Schedule, which will be effective beginning May 1, 2018.

Below is an overview of the changes to the Medicare Supplement Commission Schedules:
  • A new Medicare Supplement Commission Schedule has been added for policies with effective dates on or after May 1, 2018 (pages 21–28).
  • This updated version of the PPP contains two Medicare Supplement Commission Schedules:
    • For policies with effective dates between January 1, 2018, and April 30, 2018.
    • For policies with effective dates on or after May 1, 2018.
  • New schedules for policies with effective dates on or after May 1, 2018, are outlined by age bracket (under 65, 65-80, 81+), state, and compensation year.
  • First Year commissions will be paid annually for policies with effective dates on or after May 1, 2018.
  • Renewal commissions will continue to be paid monthly.

BIG NEWS! Lifetime Renewals on UnitedHealthcare AARP Medicare Supplements Starting May 1


Great news for agents authorized to offer AARP Medicare Supplement insurance plans in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, and Virginia! You will now earn lifetime renewals on applications with an effective date of May 1, 2018, and later. (Note: For the states listed, except Florida, applicants must be age 65 or older and eligible for Medicare supplement open enrollment, or underwritten.)

Renewals will be paid as long as the member stays with an AARP Medicare Supplement Plan and continues to pay the premium, provided the agent remains in good standing.

New SEP Opportunity in Dayton, Ohio

Premier Hospital System in Dayton, Ohio is closing its MAPD plan effective April 1. CMS has granted these members a Special Enrollment Period effective now through May 31, 2018. During the SEP, affected members can enroll in any new Medicare Advantage plan available in their area. If they don’t join another Medicare plan, they’ll have Original Medicare and prescription drug coverage starting April 1, 2018.
