UnitedHealthcare recently announced that the Ohio MEWA, through the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, now has three common renewal dates: January (1/1), May (5/1), and September (9/1). Since the roll out of the Ohio MEWA, UnitedHealthcare only had one common renewal date of January. This announcement comes as a response from feedback they have received that their brokers would prefer not to have all MEWA groups renew on January 1. Effective immediately for new business:
- May 1 Common Renewal Date: for 5/1, 6/1, 7/1 and 8/1 effective dates
- September 1 Common Renewal Date: for 9/1, 10/1, 11/1 and 12/1 effective dates
- January 1 Common Renewal Date: for 1/1, 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1 effective dates
If you already have a May 1 effective date MEWA new business quote, this change will apply to those quotes. There is no change in the rates that you already have, and those groups would now renew on 5/1/23.
If you’re working with your Cornerstone Broker Advisor on any existing UnitedHealthcare groups to migrate it to the MEWA, this change will not apply to those groups yet, so please reach out to your Cornerstone Broker Advisor with any questions on specific migrating groups.
